About Dr. Brian Stone
Dr. Brian Stone was born and raised in Lake Jackson, TX. From a young age, Dr. Stone knew he wanted to pursue a career in the healthcare field. After college, he began looking into oral surgery, but he wasn’t completely convinced that it was the right path for him. When he chose dental school, he wanted to keep his options open so that he could pursue a career in anything — orthodontics, endodontics, or oral surgery. However, after doing an internship in the oral surgery department and seeing a child with broken facial bones treated, he realized oral surgery was the right path.
Dr. Stone finds his oral surgery career extremely rewarding because of the opportunities he gets to develop relationships with patients. He enjoys meeting new people and loves the chance to help them. Oral surgery has given him a broad skill set, which allows him to make a difference for patients with many different conditions.
Education
Dr. Stone attended the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) for his undergraduate career, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in biology. After taking a year off, he returned to school to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from Baylor University. After receiving his dental degree, Dr. Stone chose to expand his training to medicine and earned his medical degree (MD) from Texas Tech Health Science Center as well before moving to Dallas to complete his oral and maxillofacial training.
Residency
After earning his dual degrees, Dr. Stone continued to complete his oral and maxillofacial residency. During his residency, he gained more specialized training in surgery and the treatment of more complex oral and facial conditions, including jaw dysfunction and facial trauma. He also trained alongside licensed anesthesiologists to earn the qualifications to administer all forms of sedation safely.
Certifications
As a final step to further his training, Dr. Stone completed the rigorous requirements to earn his certification from the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. This certification ensures that Dr. Stone understands and stays up to date with the latest advancements of the oral and maxillofacial specialty.
Hobbies
Outside of work, Dr. Stone enjoys a variety of activities. He and his wife have three children, and he loves spending time with his family outdoors. He especially enjoys camping trips with the family. Additionally, he enjoys hunting and fishing, and when he wants to stay closer to home, he gets outdoors and enjoys a game of golf. He loves living in Tyler because it reminds him of where he grew up, and it’s a great place to raise a family.
In addition, Dr. Brian Stone spends his spare time working with members of the Texas Legislature to develop strong regulations for using anesthesia in dental offices, which is designed to protect patients who receive anesthesia during treatment. His work to protect the local community on behalf of the OMS speciality earned him the Texas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons’ second annual Roger P. Byrne, DDS, MD, Political Advocacy Award. He works hard to help educate others on the importance of keeping patients safe.
