Meet Wade R. Barker, DDS, MD
Dr. Wade Barker is committed to his patients and earned both a medical and dental degree so he could provide them with outstanding care.
About Dr. Wade Barker
Dr. Wade Barker was born in Lindale, Texas. He felt inspired to pursue the field of oral surgery because he enjoyed the broad scope of treatment and the ability to change someone’s entire facial appearance. Motivated by the small-town environment of a community-based practice, Dr. Barker was ecstatic to be invited to the Southern Surgical Arts team by Dr. Brian and Dr. Charles. The core beliefs of this practice align with his personal goals of implementing cutting-edge technology in a welcoming and friendly atmosphere while putting the patient’s safety as the number one priority.
If Dr. Barker could let his patients know one thing about his style of practice, it would be that his goal is to treat every patient like a member of his family. To him, the most rewarding thing about being an oral surgeon is having the ability to relieve someone’s pain and being a factor in a positive change to someone’s life.
Being the proud Texan that he is, Dr. Barker is a Fightin’ Texas Aggie through and through. He’s been to Belize seven times on dental mission trips and is also an Eagle Scout. He considers himself a technology geek and loves to learn and study the latest technologies and how things work. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, relaxing by the lake, and outdoor cooking.
Dr. Barker studied biomedical science at Texas A&M University and earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from Baylor College of Dentistry in 2013. He earned his medical degree (MD) from Texas Tech School of Medicine in 2016 and was invited to join Southern Surgical Arts after meeting Dr. Charles and Dr. Brian during the East Texas Mission of Mercy. He is a proud supporter of community service and has participated in many charity events, such as Tejas Missions International Service Trip and the Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation, where he was later selected as a member on the Access to Care Committee as well as the Board of Trustees.
Dr. Barker completed his residency at Baylor University Medical Center and at Texas A&M College of Dentistry, where he focused on oral and maxillofacial surgery. Dr. Barker worked alongside highly trained and experienced professionals and has exceptional skills in general surgery, anesthesia, and a wide range of oral surgery care.
Dr. Barker was looking for a practice that aligned well with his philosophy regarding excellent patient care, safety and top-quality treatment, which is why he knew that Southern Surgical Arts was an ideal fit. Dr. Barker worked diligently throughout his years of education and has earned the title of many highly regarded positions, such as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation and a Program Liaison for the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is a member of the advisory board of Tejas Missions and enjoys being engaged in the local community and charitable events. Dr. Barker is certified through the American Heart Association in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Basic Life Support (BLS).
